Acoustic Wave Therapy
Acoustic Wave Therapy is FDA approved for the treatment of cellulite. It addresses both causes of cellulite unlike previous treatments. Cellulite is caused by damage to the collagen support system with protrusion of fat cells through these damaged areas. Pressure waves generated by a balisitic handpiece break up the damaged collagen. They also cause a healing response in the dermis of the skin to generate new collagen and prevent the fat cells from pushing through this layer.
Eight to ten treatments are generally required, done twice weekly. Some improvement may be seen at the end of the third week but even greater improvement is noted three weeks following the last treatment. This is due to ongoing stimulation of new collagen which takes several weeks to occur. Side effects may include mild discomfort and bruising.
